How we look after your information

Your stories, recordings and photographs are personal. This page explains briefly what we collect, why we collect it and the choices you have.

What we collect, and why

When you enquire, we collect the details you give us so that we can reply. When you ask for the ten questions card or our essays, we collect your email address so that we can send them.

When you work with us on a book, we also hold the recordings of your conversations, the photographs and documents you lend us, and the drafts of your book. We use them only to make your book. We do not sell personal information, and we never use the contents of your book for any other purpose without your written permission.

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988.

Who sees it

Your recordings and drafts are seen only by the people who make your book: your interviewer, your writer, and the people who design, print and bind it. We also rely on a few service providers to run the practice, including Google Workspace for email and file storage and Netlify for the website and its forms. Some of them store data outside Australia.

This website

We use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use this website, such as which pages they read and which site or search brought them here. It uses cookies and collects information about your device, browser and approximate location, but not your name or contact details. We do not use advertising cookies.

Google processes this information under its own privacy policy. If you would rather not be counted, Google offers a browser add-on that opts you out.

Your choices

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it, and you can unsubscribe from our emails at any time. Write to Alexander at alexander@wordanddeed.com.au. If you are not satisfied with our reply, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
